Calm House Hotel Review

Hoi An is famous for its lantern-lit streets and ancient charm, but finding a quiet sanctuary near the bustling Old Town can be a challenge for many travelers. The Calm House Hotel offers a unique boutique experience that bridges the gap between luxury and local hospitality, providing a restful escape on a scenic river island. It is the ideal choice for those who want to be close to the action of the night markets while still waking up to the peaceful sounds of the Vietnamese countryside.

This review explores why this hidden gem stands out in Vietnam’s crowded accommodation market, from its personalized service led by Manager Rosy to its stunning views of the surrounding rice fields. Whether you are arriving by motorbike after a long coastal drive or looking for a family-friendly base for beach trips, discover how this hotel’s attention to detail elevates a standard stay into a high-end adventure.

Calm House Hotel Review

Calm House Hotel

We arrived at the Calm House Hotel in Hoi An after a full day riding motorbikes through a mountainous region of Vietnam, along winding countryside roads with some amazing stops to see waterfalls and temples along the way. After almost 10 hours on the bikes (and a notoriously uncomfortable journey on a night bus the night before) we were relieved to arrive and experience the warm welcome at the Calm House Hotel. Hoi An is very well connected and easy to reach using a variety of transport, you can arrive on the ‘Easy Rider’ bikes like we did, or take the bus from many different cities. There’s also the option of flying or taking the train to Danang, which is then just a short taxi ride to Hoi An. If you choose to stay in the Calm House Hotel the team there are very helpful and can arrange transfers for you.

Our room

After checking in we were shown our room on the second floor of the hotel. Being at the rear of the building, we had a great view over the pool and garden, and beyond to the river and rice fields. Although it is called a hotel the Calm House is more of a boutique sized hotel or bed and breakfast, but there are lots of special touches which make the stay feel like a five star experience. There is bottled water in the room that is replenished every day, and there are lovely scented soaps in the en-suite bathroom. We found the bed extremely comfortable and slept really well due to the quiet location of the hotel, meaning we were well rested to enjoy exploring Hoi An.

Things to do nearby

The Calm House Hotel is situated on one of the river islands in Hoi An, meaning it’s away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist area and is a great place to relax. However, it’s only a short walk or bike ride over the bridge into the Old Town making it the best of both worlds. Once over the bridge there are so many things to see, from heritage sites like the Japanese Bridge to the busy night market. We enjoyed wandering around and stopping to look at anything which caught our eye, but if you’d like to plan ahead before leaving the hotel the staff there will be happy to help you plan your day. It’s also easy to get to the beach, only a 20 minute taxi ride away.

What makes it special?

We stayed in many different accommodation types during our Vietnam trip – Hotels, homestays, and self-catering apartments. But what made the Calm House Hotel really stand out was the amazing team of staff who worked there. Led by manager Rosy, they all go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay, and nothing is too much trouble. The team will help you to plan trips, get your laundry done, hire bicycles, or even book a massage. Not only this, but they are a lovely group of people to sit and chat with, which really made us feel at home.

Our conclusion

We loved our stay at the Calm House Hotel in Vietnam, and we can’t wait to return and stay again!
