Llyn Gwynant Campsite Review

Llyn Gwynant Campsite sits within Snowdonia National Park, providing direct access to multiple Snowdon routes including the Pyg Track and Miners Path (both reachable via stone footbridge from site), plus the Watkin Path to the southwest. This review covers on-site facilities including hot showers, laundry, shop stocking camping essentials and firewood, plus the food outlet serving breakfasts, barista coffee, packed lunches and evening pizzas. We outline boat hire options for the adjacent lake, walking route access, and practical considerations for families and adventure seekers planning a Snowdonia camping trip.

The campsite caters to both families and adventurers with peaceful countryside ambience despite summer season activity. Key facilities include clean toilet and shower blocks with hot water, dish washing stations, freezer access for cool blocks, and wood-burning campfire trays provided on pitches for evening relaxation. Site wardens monitor noise levels to ensure quiet nights, making it suitable for varied camping styles. We detail the range of nearby activities from abandoned mine exploring at Go Below to gorge walking with Snowdonia Adventure Activities, plus the lake’s suitability for paddling and swimming when weather permits (water regularly tested from mountain springs).

Llyn Gwynant Adventure Campsite

From the Llyn Gwynant Campsite you have a range of things to do to keep you busy and tasting the fresh welsh countryside air, a selection of walking routes leave from the site towards the starting points of the trails up Snowdon. If you head over the beautiful stone footbridge and in a North East direction you can find the beginning of the Pyg Track or the Miners Path.

Snowdon Walking Routes

Both reasonably accomplishable routes for those of a fit and healthy nature, however if you are a more experienced climber and want a real challenge then try Crib Goch. This route is not to be tried though without the right experience and equipment and is best undertaken in good weather. Heading off in the South Westerly direction from the site you can find the start of the Watkin Path which has some lovely waterfalls and scenery on the way up Snowdon.

You don’t just have to do walking or hiking if you stay at Llyn Gwynant, being surrounded by running rivers and a beautiful lake it’s a paddlers paradise, the site itself offers a range of boat hire or areas to launch your own boat from. If the waters warm enough and weather giving you may also choose to go for a little swim along the river or in the Lake. The water itself is regularly tested and fed from the mountain springs of Snowdon.

Relax & Recharge At Llyn Gwynant Campsite

While at Llyn Gwynant Campsite you can take advantage of the new food outlet building, currently un-named but due to open April 2019 which will be serving breakfasts, barista style coffee and packed lunches plus their already famous evening pizzas. Replacing what used to be gazebos and a giant stone pizza oven, they really are something to look forward to in the evening after a long day of hiking!

The facilities on site are well looked after including the toilet and shower blocks which have fresh hot running water to clean yourself off in plus dish washing and laundry facilities. The on site shop sells a range of supplies for your camping including firestarters, wood for your camp fires and toiletries and basic grocery items if you run out. If you bring a cool box for your beer or meats a freezer is also on site to re-freeze your cool blocks.

Countryside Ambience

One of the reasons we return again and again to Llyn Gwynant Campsite is it’s peaceful countryside ambience and how it caters just as well for families as it does for adventurers. In the summer months it will be busier on site so you won’t get as much space and there will be kids running about having fun but it’s also very very peaceful and the wardens keep a close eye (or ear) on the volume of campers and any music to ensure you have a quiet nights sleep and great time.

Come nights time it really is just so lovely to start a wood camp fire in the trays provided on site and look up at the stars. We can’t recommend Llyn Gwynant Campsite enough if you are thinking of doing an adventure trip to Snowdonia National Park or a bit of Camping.
