Glen Nevis Campsite is situated at the foot of Ben Nevis, making it a great base for exploring the Scottish Highlands. The campsite is easily accessible by car, with signposts directing from Fort William and the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre. For those relying on public transport, there are several bus routes, including the 47, 41, and N42, that pass near the campsite. Additionally, the nearby town of Fort William, just 2 miles away, offers train services via the Caledonian Sleeper, ScotRail, and for rail enthusiasts West Coast Railway offer a steam train trip. At the campsite reception, you’ll also find the local bike hire scheme, Hi-Bike, which offers electric bike hire throughout the Highlands

Glen Nevis Check In and Departures
Checking in at Glen Nevis Campsite is a straightforward process; the check-in time starts at 2:00 PM, allowing you plenty of time to set up your tent or get comfortable in your accommodation before the evening. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by the staff at the reception, who will provide you with all the necessary information. If you arrive late, you can proceed directly to your designated camping spot or pod, which will be prepared for you.
For departures, the check-out time is by 11:00 AM. This gives you ample time to pack up and enjoy a breakfast before heading off.

Activities near Fort William
The area surrounding Glen Nevis Campsite is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. From the campsite, you can explore various walking and hiking routes suitable for all levels of hikers and explorers. The nearby Steall Falls, the second-highest waterfall in Scotland, is a must-visit and can be accessed through a gorge nearby. For cycling enthusiasts, Fort William offers a network of tracks and purpose-built cycle paths, including the world-class downhill mountain bike track at Nevis Range. Other activities in the area include kayaking, go-karting, canyoning, salmon fishing, and quad biking.

Campsite Facilities
Glen Nevis Campsite boasts a range of well looked after facilities for a comfortable stay. The campsite offers spacious camping areas, hot showers, a washing-up facility, and a shop. There are also laundry facilities, recycling facilities, and a restaurant and bar located just 500 meters down the road. The campsite is well-maintained, with landscaped grounds and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We found all the facilities to be well-maintained and very clean, making them perfect for freshening up after a long day of hiking.

Campfire Kitchen & Bar
The Campfire Kitchen and Bar at Glen Nevis Campsite is a great spot to enjoy a meal or a drink. This laid-back outdoor kitchen serves up delicious food throughout the day, starting with breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Each evening, the Campfire Kitchen offers a different themed menu, ranging from curry nights to burgers, loaded fries, and chip shop classics. The bar offers a selection of locally sourced products, including real ales and malt whiskies. If you are looking for something different Fort William has a range of restaurants with plenty of parking, we can personally recommend Fishy Fishy and Spice Tandoori.

The nearby town of Fort William offers a range of amenities, including shops, restaurants, and bars, providing a taste of local Highland hospitality. The campsite is situated in a peaceful and picturesque location at the base of Ben Nevis, offering stunning views of the surrounding area. Getting supplies is easy with a large Morrisons and smaller Tesco just down the road.

Camping Accommodation Options
Glen Nevis Campsite offers a variety of accommodation options to suit different preferences. For traditional campers, there are five dedicated tent fields, providing ample space and stunning mountain views. Caravan and motorhome owners can choose from non-electric, electric, and fully serviced pitches, ensuring a comfortable stay. For those seeking more comfort, the campsite offers camping pods, which we opted for.

Camping Pods
Glen Nevis Campsite offers ready-to-go camping pods. These high-spec units can accommodate up to three people and are equipped with underfloor heating, a drying cupboard, a sink with cold water, an electric kettle, and a fridge. The pods are situated near the facilities building and offer stunning mountain views from the bedroom windows. While bedding and towels are not provided, the pods are an excellent option for couples or small families looking for a cosy and convenient camping experience. Dogs are also welcome in designated camping pods, making it a pet-friendly option.

Ben Nevis Walking Route Nearby
One of the main attractions of Glen Nevis Campsite is its proximity to the Ben Nevis walking route. The Mountain Path, also known as the Tourist Path, starts just half a mile from the campsite at the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre. This well-marked and maintained path offers a challenging but rewarding hike to the summit of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. The route takes you through stunning mountain scenery, with breathtaking views along the way.
